Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Conference

Friday, January 31st, 2014 @ 7:39AM

On Monday, January 20, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Theta Epsilon Omega Chapter and Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. Epsilon Iota Iota Chapter (EIIC) co-sponsored the annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Conference at Wexler-Grant Community School in New Haven, CT. This year, over 300 people came out to the event and participated in the program. The theme of the conference was “Drum Major for Justice”, and expanded upon Dr. King’s persona by promoting being an active contributor. Dr. King Day is meant to be a day of service, not a day off, and the brothers of EIIC demonstrated their commitment to that ideal by hosting various workshops and presentations on finance, education, and health during the day. In addition to the workshops, EIIC assisted with coordinating the workshops and preparing the school for the conference. Other key contributors to the conference include New Haven Public Schools, Howard K. Hill Funeral Services, Subway International, and the United Way of Greater New Haven.
